Video | Backstage interview with Douglas Blair of W.A.S.P. at Skogsröjet
When W.A.S.P. recently once again headlined the Skogsröjet festival in Sweden, Roppongi Rocks’ Stefan Nilsson took the chance to meet lead guitarist Douglas Blair backstage before the show for a chat. Watch the interview in the video below.
The conversation between W.A.S.P.‘s Douglas Blair and Roppongi Rocks‘ Stefan Nilsson covered performing the band’s debut album in its entirety, the challenges of singing background vocals, following in the footsteps of Randy Piper and Bob Kulick, the songs he enjoys the most to perform live, the busy touring schedule, playing on the band’s own gear rather than rented gear and the possibility of new W.A.S.P. music. Douglas also managed to compare W.A.S.P. to Swedish pop (“To me, ‘Tormentor’ is like an ABBA song!”).
W.A.S.P., fronted by Blackie Lawless, was formed in Los Angeles in 1982 and released its self-titled debut album in 1984. Their somewhat controversial stage show got them noticed, but it was the band’s terrific songs that won them fans all over the world. The band is currently touring the world with a show which sees the band perform the debut album in its entirety, plus other fan favourites from the band’s fine back catalogue.
Douglas Blair first joined W.A.S.P. in 1992 for the tour that followed “The Crimson Idol” album. In 2006, he joined the band for a third time and has been its lead guitarist ever since.
This interview was recorded backstage at the Skogsröjet festival in Rejmyre, Sweden on 1st August 2025.
