Exodus “Goliath”

Bay Area thrash metal veterans Exodus are back with their 12th studio album. It’s smoking!

Exodus formed in California in 1979 and were at the forefront of the Bay Area thrash metal scene. As you may remember, the band was home to Kirk Hammett before he left to join Metallica. Exodus’ 1985 debut album “Bonded by Blood” is one of the genre’s classic releases. This band was one of the pioneers that laid the foundation for the classic thrash metal sound. That sound is still very much there as a foundation on this new album. The band’s sound has now evolved and become more complex, but without losing any of its greatness.

There’s punky thrash metal on tracks like “Hostis Humani Generis”, “Beyond the Event Horizon” and “2 Minutes Hate”. But there’s plenty of variation on this album. One of my favourite tracks, the title track “Goliath”, is best described as slow-motion thrash with Rob Dukes’ vocals and Jack Gibson’s bass as the song’s backbone. Fookin’ awesome! The overall album is best described as uncompromising thrash metal. Just the way we want our Exodus sandwich served. Full on, unpolished, in your face and off-trend. The band sounds hungry again. This is thrash metal at its best! Returning vocalist Rob Dukes, whose first stint with the band lasted from 2005 until 2014, is grabbing his second chance fronting the band by the balls and he ain’t letting go. Drummer Tom Hunting and guitarists Gary Holt and Lee Altus are also on top of their game with their performances on this fab album. Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain) makes a terrific guest appearance on “The Changing Me”.

“Goliath” is a terrific modern thrash metal album from one of the genre’s best and most important bands.

Exodus’ new album “Goliath” will be released via Napalm Records on 20th March.
