NWOBHM legend Biff Byford of Saxon sat down backstage with Roppongi Rocks’ Stefan Nilsson in Tokyo for a chat about the band’s past, present and future, including the work on the next album. Watch the full interview in the video below.
Saxon’s co-founder, vocalist and leader Biff Byford talked about the secret to successfully writing great songs, what the addition of Diamond Head guitarist Brian Tatler has meant for the band, the importance of creating new music, the band’s creative process, when the next album is expected to be released and much more.
Formed in Barnsley, England in 1975, Saxon became one of the pioneers of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene. Its self-titled debut album was released in 1979 and was followed by classic albums such as “Wheels of Steel” (1980), “Strong Arm of the Law” (1980), “Denim and Leather” (1981) and “Power & the Glory” (1983). The band has continued to release new albums and tour globally. Its latest album, “Hell, Fire and Damnation”, was released in 2024.
In addition to vocalist Biff Byford and guitarist Brian Tatler, the band currently consists of Nigel Glockler (drums), Nibbs Carter (bass) and Doug Scarratt (guitar).
