W.A.S.P. at Skogsröjet

Fire and water battled it out in a Swedish forest when W.A.S.P. headlined Skogsröjet.

W.A.S.P. at the Skogsröjet festival, Rejmyre, Sweden on 1st August 2025

The rain was pouring down during W.A.S.P.’s headline set at the Skogsröjet festival in the Swedish sticks. Metalheads are a sturdy bunch. It takes more than adverse weather conditions to stop them from worshipping their favourite bands. The rain prevented us from getting any good photos from the show, but it did not stop the band or the audience from having a great time. On stage, the band was on fire! You would have needed more than rainwater to put that out!

The show, billed as “Album One Alive”, was a celebration of the band’s self-titled 1984 debut album. Opening with a high-energy version of the anthem “I Wanna Be Somebody”, the band continued to perform the album in its entirety. Of the album’s ten songs, the highlights this evening included “School Daze”, “Hellion”, “On Your Knees” and “Tormentor”. Douglas Blair’s guitar solo on “Sleeping (in the Fire)” was killer! The last time I saw W.A.S.P. was in London in 1999. To see the current line-up of the band – Blackie Lawless on vocals and guitar, Douglas Blair on lead guitar, Mike Duda on bass and Aquiles Priester on drums – was pure joy. There were no signs of Blackie’s back problems that ruined part of the previous year’s tour.

Once all the songs from the debut album had been performed, we got treated to two terrific medleys that showed off how the band has evolved from the early days: “Inside the Electric Circus/I Don’t Need No Doctor/Scream Until You Like It” and “The Real Me/Forever Free/The Headless Children”. W.A.S.P.’s victory lap in the Swedish countryside was completed with “Wild Child” and “Blind in Texas”. What a triumph!
