Defleshed: Grind Over Japan

Swedish trio Defleshed skinned Japan alive with a furiously thrashy death metal performance.

Defleshed at Space Odd, Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan on 5th December 2025

Three years after the last Japan tour, Defleshed, Swedish merchants of death, were back on stage in Tokyo. Defleshed co-headlined the show with American death metal band Origin and with Neuroticos and Midhaven as support acts. This was an evening filled with brutal music.

Defleshed’s performance was relentless, fast, furious and heavier than a busload of sumo wrestlers. They served up raw and thrashy death metal with some grind in the mix as well. This was the second night in Tokyo on a four-date tour of Japan that also included stops in Nagoya and Osaka.

They last toured Japan in December 2022, shortly after the band, after 15 years apart, had reunited and released the comeback album “Grind Over Matter”. They have not released any new records since then. But that isn’t a problem, as the band has six spectacular full-length albums to pick songs from.

The brutal Swedish trio consists of bassist/vocalist Gustaf Jorde, guitarist Lars Löfven and drummer Matte Modin. They are as tight as Siamese twins. It is a metal power trio of the best kind. No fluff, no messing about. Just hard-hitting extreme metal of the best kind. Pure carnage.

They opened the show with “Stripped to the Bone” from 2005’s album “Reclaim the Beat” and continued with “Hand Over Fist” from 2002’s “Royal Straight Flesh”. What an opening! The full-on mayhem went on with many favourites, including songs like “Grind Over Matter”, “Feed on the Fallen”, “Metalbounded”, “Fast Forward” and “Thorns of a Black Rose”. The set was rounded off with “Walking the Moons of Mars”, “Night Vision” and “Under the Blade”.
