Stryper “The Greatest Gift of All”

Christmas is cancelled thanks to Stryper.

American Jesus rockers Stryper thought it would be a great idea to record a Christmas album. It wasn’t. Some metal acts have done OK with the odd jolly Christmas single (220 Volt’s “Heavy Christmas” and King Diamond’s “No Presents for Christmas” come to mind). But this? It is utter tosh. Your local church band would’ve done a better job than this. For the first few tracks, I am thinking this might be some parody. Sadly, it isn’t. The songs are boring as hell. The delivery is subpar. I have no idea why Stryper is doing this. This band, after all, did create a decent melodic metal album such as 1986’s “To Hell with the Devil”.

A Jesus metal band doing poor versions of “Silent Night”, “Joy to the World”, “Little Drummer Boy” and “Winter Wonderland”? That was not on anyone’s wish list. This awkward album is definitely not the greatest gift of all. Sorry, kids. Christmas is cancelled. No presents for you.

Stryper’s “The Greatest Gift of All” will be out via Frontiers Music on 21st November.
