Blue Mountain “When Heaven Falls Down & Hell Freezes Over”
Swedish melodic rockers Blue Mountain are back with a new solid album.
Blue Mountain plays rock for grown-ups. On the band’s second album, the follow-up to 2021’s “Karma Alarm”, they are a bit heavier, but this is still very much a catchy melodic rock band. It is a solid album of middle-of-the-road classic melodic rock.

“When Heaven Falls Down & Hell Freezes Over” is an album with ten solid rock tracks. My immediate favourite tracks are “AutoMagic”, “Conscience Will”, “Kill Em with Kindness” and “Soulshaker”. “When Heaven Falls Down”, which has some nice Europe vibes, is also an excellent track that sounds like it is straight from 1987. “Black Light Morning” has a cool drive to it. It has some fabulous bluesy guitar work played over a heavy rhythm section.
Blue Mountain is presumably named after the blue-tinged mountains of the county of Hellsingland, where the band members grew up and started playing music in the ‘80s. While the band is only a few years old, its members have known each other since they started playing music. They grew up with many of the same influences from the ‘70s and ‘80s. Now, when they are a bit older and more seasoned, they have the skills and abilities to create the kind of music they listened to as kids.
Blue Mountain consists of Hans-Birger Svalfors (Fatal Smile, MindSplit, Fire & Ice) on vocals, Jocke Nilsson (Angeline) on guitar, Ulf Nilsson (Angeline) on bass, and Tobbe Jonsson (Angeline, The Lightbringer of Sweden) on drums. There are also guest appearances by guitarists Janne Stark (Nerve Star, Overdrive, Grand Design) and Erik Svadling (Stone Mountain).
This is a perfect road trip soundtrack. Call it melodic rock, AOR, mainstream rock or whatever you want. It’s rock music that works. It’s good.
