Electric Boys “Shady Side of Town”
Electric Boys take us on a ride to the groovy side of rock’n’roll town on their new EP.

This four-track EP from Swedish rockers Electric Boys consists of songs from the writing sessions for the band’s 2023 album “Grand Explosivos”. These songs didn’t make the album, but in hindsight, the band felt they were too good not to be recorded and released. We thank them for that because they are not wrong. These four tracks are simply fabulous.

Hard rock? Sure. But this is rock music that is groovy, funky and bluesy, as we would expect from Electric Boys. The tracks showcase a more mature version of the band that burst onto the scene in the ’80s.
Swagger? Absolutely. Cheeky? Oh, yeah. But the band can back that up with talent, style, hard work and world-class delivery. I first saw them live in the late ’80s and most recently in 2024. They still got it. They have always got it.
This well-dressed quartet consists of Conny Bloom (guitar and lead vocals), Andy Christell (bass), “Slim” Martin (guitar) and Jolle Atlagic (drums). The players know each other well musically and it shines through in these four splendid tracks.
The EP serves up a funkadelic ride of grooves, riffs and hooks in the form of “Head Honcho”, “Grand Explosivos”, “Looking for Vajayay” and “Keep It Dark”. “Slim” Martin stepping up to the microphone to sing some lead vocals on “Keep It Dark” is a nice surprise. These four songs make my feet dance, my head nod and my mouth smile.
I hope that we can now get the Boys to come to Japan for some shows. Three of the four band members toured Japan in 2009 as part of the final line-up of Hanoi Rocks, backing up Andy McCoy and Michael Monroe. Now it is time for someone to bring Electric Boys to Japan to perform their own music.
