Roy Khan in Tokyo
Roy Khan celebrated his Kamelot legacy to the delight of his Japanese fans.

Norwegian vocalist Roy Khan revisited his Kamelot past when he performed in Tokyo on a double bill with former Angra vocalist Edu Falaschi. While he is best known as the former lead vocalist for Kamelot, Roy has also been fronting prog metal band Conception and has recorded in the studio with Avantasia.
The set in Tokyo consisted exclusively of Kamelot songs. “The Black Halo”, Kamelot’s splendid 2005 album, is one of the most cherished records for many Japanese fans. To everybody’s delight, we got treated to plenty of songs from that album at this show.
Roy, who used Edu Falaschi’s excellent Brazilian backing band for the Japan shows, opened strongly with “When the Lights Are Down” and “Soul Society”. His beautiful voice (I mean, THAT VOICE! C’mon!) was flawless. He seemed to enjoy singing the old songs again. The Japanese fans packed into the sold-out venue loved every minute of it.

It has been some 15 years since Roy left Kamelot, but the fans have not forgotten him or the songs. The splendid set featured fan favourites such as “Moonlight”, “Center of the Universe” and “Karma”. Roy retired from the music industry for a number of years before he decided to make a comeback. Boy, am I glad he is back on stage. Someone with a voice and songwriting skills that good should not be hidden from the world.
The one-hour set was rounded off with excellent versions of “March of Mephisto“ and “Forever”. Backstage after the gig, Roy was beaming, clearly very happy with how his performance had been received by the Japanese fans.
