Edu Falaschi in Tokyo

Former Angra frontman Edu Falaschi returned to Japan for another win.

Edu Falaschi at Shinjuku ReNY, Tokyo, Japan on 21st November 2025

Brazilian metal band Angra has a special place in many Japanese fans’ hearts. Vocalist Edu Falaschi fronted Angra between 2001 and 2012. During that time, he sang on the albums “Rebirth”, “Temple of Shadows”, “Aurora Consurgens” and “Aqua”.

The venue in Shinjuku was packed with fans wearing Angra shirts, indicating that this was a loyal audience ready to celebrate Edu’s past, present and future. The Tokyo show was heavily focused on Edu’s Angra era. However, the setlist also included two of his best-loved solo songs – “The Glory of the Sacred Truth” and “The Ancestry”. To the audience’s delight, Edu also performed his version of “Pegasus Fantasy”, a cover of a well-known Japanese anime soundtrack originally by the Japanese band Make-Up. Among the fabulous Angra songs in the set were “Spread Your Fire”, “Angels and Demons”, “The Temple of Hate“, “The Shadow Hunter”, “Winds of Destination”, “Late Redemption” and “Rebirth”.

Edu’s voice was terrific and, together with his Brazilian backing band, he put on a splendid live performance. We got plenty of fast and melodic power metal, but there were also slower parts performed with acoustic guitars. An encore consisting of the fabulous Angra song “Nova Era” finished off a great evening.

Edu’s show was part of a double bill with former Kamelot frontman Roy Khan. The fact that the two gentlemen didn’t perform at least one song together seemed like a missed opportunity. But that is something we can hope for next time they tour Japan.

Shortly after the show, Angra announced that they will perform a special reunion show in Brazil next year with Edu Falaschi, Kiko Loureiro and Aquiles Priester. They then announced that Edu’s successor as Angra’s lead vocalist, Fabio Lione, has left the band. Who knows what’s next?
