Backstage in Tokyo with Candlemass vocalist Johan Längqvist
Johan Längqvist, the lead vocalist of legendary Swedish doom metal band Candlemass, sat down with Roppongi Rocks’ Stefan Nilsson backstage at Club Quattro in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan on 26th January 2024.
The pioneering Swedish doom metal band Candlemass celebrates 40 years as a band in 2024. They released their debut album “Epicus Doomicus Metallicus” in 1986. Original singer Johan Längqvist returned to the band in 2018 and features on the band’s two latest albums, “The Door to Doom” (2019) and “Sweet Evil Sun” (2022).
The band first performed in Japan in 2016 and returned in 2019 and 2024. The current band line-up consists of Leif Edling (bass), Mats “Mappe” Björkman (rhythm guitar), Lars Johanson (lead guitar), Jan Lindh (drums) and Johan Längqvist (vocals).
