Gig Reviews

Australia’s Mystery rocked Roppongi

The band may be called Mystery, but there is no mystery as to why this Australian hard rock band is great.

Mystery at Club Edge, Roppongi, Tokyo, Japan on 13th September 2025

Melbourne hard rock trio Mystery has great songs and three solid band members. There is zero ego, the band works hard and they know how to create a good time together with their audiences. The gig in Roppongi was part of Mystery’s 15-date Japan tour to celebrate the band’s 15th anniversary. Before Mystery hit the stage, no fewer than five support bands had helped to warm up the audience. That right there is evidence of what kind of band Mystery is. They are friends with both the support bands and the audience. And they make new friends at every single gig. They are likeable, relatable and they know how to make everybody have a great time.

Mystery has a whole bunch of terrific original songs. In Roppongi, they gave us sweaty, beer-drenched versions of “Dead by Sunday”, “Writing on the Wall”, “Tear Down the Walls”, “Alive Today”, and the band’s latest single “What Makes You Lie”. But it isn’t beneath these Aussies to play a few covers when they feel like it. The Mystery boys know that it is their job to entertain the audience. This evening, we got Quiet Riot’s “Metal Health (Bang Your Head)”, AC/DC’s “TNT” and Ozzy Osbourne‘s “Crazy Train”. It was all good fun in the name of rock’n’roll.

Frontman Rocky Ravić (lead vocals and guitar) celebrated his 29th birthday this evening and, from now on, I bet he will celebrate all his birthdays on stage. This lad was born to perform on stage. In the current version of the band, he is joined by drummer Gavin Hill (White Widdow, Ron Keel) and bassist Oscar Hauke. It is a solid trio that clearly enjoys performing together. The Japanese audiences dig this band. So should you.
