Backstage interview in Tokyo with Markus Vanhala of Insomnium

“We don’t want to end up being a nostalgia act!” Markus Vanhala of Finnish melodic death metal band Insomnium had a backstage chat in Tokyo with Roppongi Rocks’ Stefan Nilsson. Watch the interview below.

When Finnish melodic death metal band Insomnium recently toured Japan for the first time in eight years, Roppongi Rocks’ Stefan Nilsson had a backstage chat with guitarist Markus Vanhala. The two Nordic metalheads talked about the distinct Finnish influences in the band’s lyrics and music, Finland as a heavy metal superpower, when the band’s tenth album can be expected to arrive and much more.

Insomnium was formed in Finland in 1997. They released their debut album “In the Halls of Awaiting” in 2002. “Anno 1696”, the band’s latest album, was released in 2023. Markus Vanhala joined the band in 2011. He also plays in Omnium Gatherum, Cemetery Skyline and I Am the Night.
