Kee Marcello at Skogsröjet

Kee Marcello served up acoustic reinterpretations of songs from his era of the Europe catalogue.

Kee Marcello performs Europe at the Skogsröjet festival in Rejmyre, Sweden on 31st July 2025

In recent years, Kee Marcello has been doing many gigs focused on playing only songs from his old band Europe. But those shows have been performed with a full band. At the Skogsröjet festival, for the first time, Kee did an acoustic performance consisting purely of songs from his stint as lead guitarist for Europe. Kee, backed up by vocalist Jakob Samuel (ex-The Poodles, Talisman) and bassist Ken Sandin (Swedish Erotica, ex-Alien), put on an excellent and laidback show.

The trio was seated throughout the performance of reimagined versions of the old Europe songs. Performing acoustically as a trio forced Kee and his bandmates to rethink the songs. Playing these songs without electric guitars, keyboards and drums is a potentially risky move. The musical experiment, however, worked out very well. The big crowd loved it. They got treated to excellent versions of favourites such as “More Than Meets the Eye”, “Prisoners in Paradise”, “Superstitious”, “Girl from Lebanon”, “Got Your Mind in the Gutter” and “Bad Blood”.

The show was a great treat for Europe fans as some of the songs performed by Kee from the “Out of This World” (1988) and “Prisoners in Paradise” (1991) albums are not performed live by Europe. It was also refreshing to experience a show of songs by Europe that did not feature “The Final Countdown”.
