Dynazty’s triumphant return to Tokyo

Dynazty returned to Japan for the first time since 2017 and showed us what we have missed with a great show of Swedish melodic metal.

It’s been a long time since Dynazty’s first show in Japan, in February 2017 in Shibuya, Tokyo (read our review of that gig here). A lot has happened since then, including the band releasing four more studio albums. Additionally, vocalist Nils Molin has won many new fans for Dynazty through his work with his other band, Amaranthe. In Dynazty, Nils is backed up by a great band of musicians: Georg Härnsten Egg on drums, Jonathan Olsson on bass and guitarists Love Magnusson and Mike Lavér.

The band opened the show strongly with “In the Arms of the Devil”. But make no mistake, there is nothing sinister or evil about this band. This is a band consisting of five nice Swedish guys who play modern, melodic metal.

This evening in Tokyo, we got almost an hour and a half of great and catchy melodic metal. Highlights in the set included “Game of Faces”, “Natural Born Killer”, “Call of the Night”, “Firesign” and “Presence of Mind”. Only one song, “The Human Paradox”, from the 2017 show was played this time. That shows us that this band keeps creating fantastic new music and is not afraid of playing newer songs live.

While Dynazty has a firmly established signature sound, they offered the Japanese audience a bit of musical variation with an instrumental medley and even an acoustic medley. We also got a smashing power ballad in the form of the terrific “Yours”. Here, Nils really got to showcase what a great vocalist he is. Throughout the show, he demonstrated he is a world-class frontman, too.

The evening was rounded off with “The Human Paradox”, “Devilry of Ecstasy” and “Heartless Madness”. And with that, Dynazty had won Tokyo once again.
